Kabul has become a war zone. Hosseini describes the land as destroyed by the conflict. The danger of area is very evident, houses and cars are completely destroyed. It seems as though Laila and Mariam will leaving anytime soon, on account of Rasheed. This is shows how apathetic Rasheed, while he is putting his wives and child in danger, he is also putting himself by staying in Kabul. It is evident that he does not care much for his family, but he also does not seem to care much for himself either.
What is making Rasheed stay in Kabul, when he knows it could kill him and his family?
